Now offering Preventive Care Plans
Preventive routine health care is the key to longer, happier lives for you and your pet. Dogs and cats age at a much faster rate than people do. For every year that you age, your dog or cat can age from 6 to 10 years. East-West Animal Hospital would like to be the primary caregiver for your family pet throughout every stage of life, and we strive to make your pet’s care convenient and affordable for you.
Our Preventive Care Plans provide discounted preventive veterinary services; these packaged plans save you money on routine health care you were already planning to provide to your pet. They include all necessary preventive healthcare services together in one affordably priced plan, and the cost is conveniently divided into 12 small monthly payments. Call us to learn more! Our plans include heartworm medication, flea medication and tick medication.
Plaque or tartar development is the most common cause of dental disease in pets. Periodontal disease has been estimated to affect 90% of dogs and cats over two years of age, and it essentially starts with accumulation of dental plaque. Studies have shown that regularly brushing your pet’s teeth helps to prevent accumulation of plaque.
Train your pet to have its mouth handled before introducing the toothbrush. Wrap nylon, gauze or a washcloth around your finger and gently wipe the gums. Make it rewarding and fun for your pet but be cautious, as even a familiar pet may bite.
Both home and regular professional care are required for the most successful dental program. We recommend professional dental scaling and polish under anesthesia. Disease below the gum line results from plaque accumulation and years of improper oral hygiene. Anesthesia free dentistry is cosmetic only, hiding the true disease that exists below the gum line. Professional dental care from a caring veterinarian who has been properly trained to perform safe dental cleaning, proper oral health evaluation, dental probing and x-rays under anesthesia is recommended.

We offer alternative therapies such as Acupuncture
What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture consists of a family of procedures used as therapeutic intervention. The Chinese theory of acupuncture is based on the premise that there are patterns of energy flow. Disruptions in the body’s energy flow cause health imbalances and disease.
Acupuncture involves strategic selection of points along the body which are physically manipulated, stimulated by fine needle skin penetration and/or by electrical activation and/or fluid injection.
Acupuncture has been practiced on humans, horses, cows and swine for 2,000 years. The use of this modality in dogs, cats and exotics has only been over the past 50-60 years.
What conditions can be treated with acupuncture?
The most common conditions treated with acupuncture are disc disease and arthritis. However, acupuncture and TCVM can be applied to treat many conditions. Acupuncture can treat seizures and other neurological conditions for which there is no response to traditional treatments available in western medicine and can be used to help patients recover after surgeries.
Prevention, maintenance and intervention are key elements to promoting overall wellness. Chinese and western medicines are not substitutes for one another, but they are complimentary. As an integrative approach to medicine, acupuncture can be used in conjunction with traditional western medicine.
